Toast is a unique new café experience steeped in history and a Taste of the West 2011 gold award winner.
Housed within the beautifully decorated Yarrow Interiors and run by best friends Kate and Becks, the delicious menu has been inspired by many happy and indulgent hours spent in French Patisseries. The interior features an eclectic mix of contemporary furnishings from Yarrow.
The antiques shop itself is spread through two late Georgian town houses looking out onto the high street. To the rear of the showrooms is an extensive garden with numerous courtyards, terraces, pergolas, follies and a summerhouse which are all part of the Toast experience and the perfect place to relax.
The vision is to provide guests with a charming space where they can escape and enjoy a little, affordable everyday treat - lunch with mum, an end of term treat, coffee or a really good hot chocolate with friends.
The girls serve patisserie inspired cakes, traditional English cooking, ethically produced Fair Trade coffee and superb loose leaf teas. As well as the high teas and cream teas, there is also a daily changing cake display, a delicious selection of cup cakes, cookies and several homemade ice creams.
Simple dishes are done well: Poached eggs on muffins served with air dried ham, Salad of mozzarella with green and broad beans, peas and a basil dressing, Smoked mackerel and cucumber relish and Heinz beans on hot buttered toast.
The atmosphere has a nice, calming, sanctuary feel to it – step through the front door and you’ll leave the world behind. Lovely aromas fill the day throughout the day and during the summer the long, enchanting garden is the perfect spot to enjoy a big jug of homemade lemonade.
